The Installations
The idea for temporary installations came about through the large-scale installation in Dag Hammarskjold Plaza in Manhattan in the summer of 2018 that traveled to Smithsonian’s National Zoo for several months in the fall of 2018. This piece titled “Colony Expanse” was an extremely labor-intensive series of 193 hand-painted bees. Each panel represented a member state of the United Nations. The laser-engraved Swarm Bees on wood that came after have been exhibited in DC at the German Embassies, at a museum in Auburn, Alabama, Burning Man in Black Rock City Nevada, Anthropologie’s Earth Day 2019 window displays in Rockefeller Center in NYC and Asheville, NC, a tattoo shop in Asheville, NC and many other locations.
