Ritual Theater, Sacred Installation and Performance
The Swarm installation made its second appearance as a part of the Hive Temple Collective. We originally came together at Burning Man in 2019.
This project is simultaneously one of my favorites and also the hardest to describe. The synchronicities and alignments that have happened to bring this group together literally blows my mind. The Temple is an art installation, a sacred channeled temple to the Divine feminine, a performance, a healing, a place of play, explore your spirit and change. The only thing you cannot experience in the temple is staying the same. All who enter are moved. It is an incredible example of what happens when people align on a vision. I have twice experienced this and it simply blows my mind every time.
The Process
I added gold-leaf to each bee (over 300 of them) for this install. I then drove them from New York to Miami. We had a lot of challenges from bugs to deadlines to muggy heat and more. In the end, it was a living part of the temple experience and we all celebrated. The thing about the Swarm Installation is that it really does start to look like the bees in that you are not quite sure how it is doing what it is doing. I love that about this piece.
The Community
I have said from the beginning that the bees I am painting are a symbol. We all seek connection, purpose and meaning in our lives. This collective is so powerful there is no way for me to fully share their story on my website. But I will say this… We will not solve the world’s problems without lifting women to their fully realized potential. A big part of the problem is how much energy is spent keeping women down. This group of women are helping to change that paradigm.
